The PlayStation State of Play has become increasingly important since the first iterations several years ago. With the absence of a proper press conference like the “good ol’ days” of E3, it is one of the only avenues PlayStation has to reveal its next slate of releases. While many of them are fairly forgettable, a few really bring the hype.
The recently announced June 2026 State of Play seems to be in the latter category. With it happening during the week of E3’s successor, Summer Game Fest, its hour-long run time, and a theatrical release, it seems poised to be an exciting event. It is already known that we’ll get a good look at Insomniac’s upcoming game Wolverine, but what else can we expect? Here are my five predictions for the June 2026 PlayStation State of Play.
1) Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is revealed

I’m not sure if it’s because I just finished Final Fantasy VII Rebirth last week, but it feels like it’s time for a reunion. Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will be revealed at this event with a new trailer and a release date.
I think there is an obvious answer for the name. Sticking with the “Re” theme, I think the finale will be called Final Fantasy VII Reunion. Without spoiling anything, it fits with what I believe the theme will be for the next entry, and Sephiroth said the word reunion a billion times in rebirth. It just feels right.
For a release date, I think it’s going to release October 2026. To make this prediction more spicy, I’m going to say October 2. After the game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, said he had finished 40 full playthroughs of the final entry in an interview with Nintendo Life, it has to be just around the corner.
2) Resident Evil Requiem story DLC revealed and features Jill Valentine

These predictions are partially pattern recognition, but also a dream. Capcom has a heavy presence in previous State of Plays, and I don’t think this upcoming one will be different. I do think Resident Evil Requiem is going to have story DLC, especially with how the game ends, and I believe it will release this year. Just to make it exciting, I’m going to say it will be released in September.
The dream, of course, is the return of Jill Valentine. Personally, my favorite protagonist in any Resident Evil game, so that part of the prediction is just me hoping we see her in some capacity. But it also feels like Requiem is the beginning of a “get the band back together” storyline, and that has to include Jill. Fingers crossed on that one.
3) Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet gets a release date

It has been a while since we’ve seen anything from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog’s next game. All we’ve seen really is the reveal trailer that was presented during The Game Awards in 2024. It seems time we see a bit more gameplay from The Last of Us maker’s sci-fi adventure.
Reports suggest Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is slated for a mid-2027 release, and I agree. Naughty Dog seems to like to release its games in May or June, so I’m going to say a June 2026 window is revealed.
4) First trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Physint is shown

Although not as prominent as Capcom’s presence, Hideo Kojima also has a history of sharing trailers during the PlayStation State of Play presentations. They’re also usually eight-minute trailers that show a snippet of a scene that typically gets the crowd hyped. The Higgs reveal for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach stands out as one of my favorite reveals from any show ever.
This one is a bit of a stretch, honestly, but I think this could be the time Kojima shows an in-game trailer of Physint, the spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. He just isn’t afraid to show or announce things early. With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach now behind us, it feels like it’s time to get PlayStation players excited for Kojima’s next adventure.
5) That inFamous rumor is real

A quote from VGC’s Jordan Middler has been going around stating that there may be a new inFamous project in the works, with it not being tied to Sucker Punch. Can this statement, along with the reveal of a June 2026 State of Play, be a coincidence? I think not!
Let’s pretend this is totally happening. My gut wants to say this would be a remake or “from the ground up” remaster of the original inFamous. It is a series that has been absent for over a decade now, and giving new gamers a starting point may be beneficial. The other option is to just go the Second Son route. Give players a new protagonist within the world of inFamous, who is loosely tied to the original characters. Either way, it would be good to see PlayStation finally start using some of its dormant franchises.
Obviously, there are some slam-dunk predictions for the upcoming State of Play, but that wouldn’t be fun. I know the majority of these are a stretch, but I want this State of Play to begin a new trend for PlayStation. I’d love for Sony to give its audience a reason to be excited for Summer Game Fest week every year moving forward, and that could start here. I guess we’ll find out if that comes to fruition on June 2.
