Skate publisher Electronic Arts and developer Full Circle announced their X Games event will hit the streets of San Vansterdam from July 21 until August 25. This will include new challenges, tasks, cosmetics, and more.
Skate Season 4 introduced the Stadium with its own seasonal event, the San Van Open. During the upcoming, limited-time X Games event, that location will be transformed into an arena inspired by the long-running competition. Specifically, the designs of the new obstacles will be based on the MoonPay X Games League Championship course in New Orleans, including a new themed street park, a unique competition bowl, and a huge vert ramp.
The X Games iteration of the Stadium will be open to all players during the event, as it is currently in open access. Here is a trailer for the upcoming Skate, giving players a look at the new content coming to the free-to-play game:
“X Games has always been about giving the world’s best skateboarders a stage to push what’s possible,” said Jeremy Bloom, X Games CEO. “Bringing that experience into skate. lets millions of players compete on an authentic X Games League course, represent their clubs, and experience the intensity, progression and creativity that define our sport. It’s a natural extension of what we’re building.”
Skate’s X Games event will also introduce its own progression system that includes new missions, challenges inspired by iconic moments from the competition’s history, and team tasks co-designed around signature tricks from real pros who have skated in the competition. For these challenges, pro skater Dashawn Jordan will be doing the voiceover. For those who are unaware of Jordan, check out his latest part here. It is very good.
Players will also be able to earn exclusive in-game cosmetics, like backgrounds, icons, and team jerseys for Los Angeles, São Paulo, New York, and Tokyo. There will also be X Games-themed swag available in the store throughout the event’s duration.
“Working closely with the X Games team, we set out to capture the energy and intensity of the X Games League Finals course and bring that into San Vansterdam in a way that feels authentic to both worlds,” said Deran Chung, Senior Creative Director at Full Circle. “From the layout to the flow of each line, this was about translating a real-world competition experience into something players can explore and make their own.”
The X Games event will close out Skate Season 4, which ends on August 25. Check out my thoughts on Season 4 here.
